Fall Corduroy Skirt and Knit Top

I love corduroy.

This very fine corduroy is made up in McCall's 6038, which is an asymmetrical pencil skirt of sorts.

The yellow knit top is another free Lekala, pattern number 5872, which is described as "Knitted Dress with Silk Collar." I obviously shorted it and omitted the silk collar and bow tie. Maybe this summer I'll make it as a dress AND use a silk collar with the bow tie.

Meanwhile, this knit is very thin, so I decided to double all pieces. It was easy enough to lay the main pieces along a fold and cut those double. Doing this meant that there is no hemline to sew.

I did not make an FBA - thinking that the gathers would be sufficient. I suppose they are - but next time I'll figure out how to make a slight FBA by simply rounding out the front seam under the arm to add just a bit more room.

The cardigan is Loes Hinse which I made up last spring.

Together, this is an outfit which is very comfortable and perfect for this breezy fall day.

I love it!! And the belt is perfect with it. I'm curious what it would like with a structured jacket. You could from casual to business pretty quick. Great job my friend!

Hey, Babe! Thanks for commenting!

You make a great point - I do think this could be made a bit more dressy with a jacket.

But - thinking hard - I'm not sure when I last owned a blazer. Perhaps decades ago. I had a wool green unstructured (unlined) very warm jacket that couldn't really be described as "business." That must have been in the early 90's.

I think the problem with blazers is the need for a full-bust adjustment. Ready to wear blazers are so terribly uncomfortable.

I have a jean jacket that is blazerish in my closet which matches the linen skirt I posted a couple of days ago. I think I'll wear the skirt today and post a photo of the jean jacket. We can analyze the need for an FBA.

I have not wanted to delve into the world of tailoring just yet (if ever).

I mean, how often do I need a blazer these days? I've survived for decades without....

I love the top pattern. Cordouroy has not been a favourite fabric for me, but the spate of great designs on the blog has caused me to reconsider my sewing plans for next winter. We are just launching into summer her.
